A Little Balm, A Lot of Love: Our Journey to Nurture Glow

A Little Balm, A Lot of Love: Our Journey to Nurture Glow
I first started making tallow balm on a quiet Saturday in January, just me and the boys bustling around the kitchen. My son was struggling with eczema, and I’d read that tallow could help. So I grabbed some beef fat from the freezer—leftover from our cow we had butchered—and set to work. Chopping, stirring, and straining, I felt like I was cooking up more than just ingredients—I was cooking up care, hope, and a dream.
That first batch? Well…let’s just say it smelled strongly of beef. It was yellow, a little rustic, and definitely not fancy, but it felt wonderful on the skin. I tried to mask the scent with lavender and shared it with friends and family. Some raised eyebrows, and a lady from church reminded me of her childhood kitchen and tallow’s place in cooking—but most gave it a try. And the best part? It worked. My son’s eczema softened, and I knew I was onto something special.
Making skincare from natural, God-given ingredients feels right in every sense. We’re given these things to use and honor, not waste. Tallow lets me care for my skin while making good use of the meat we eat. Over time, I shared batches with friends expecting babies, who used it on their growing tummies and delicate newborn skin. Each jar is like a little jar of intention—pure, wholesome, and made with care.
Nurture Glow was born from this little kitchen experiment. I wanted to take something that nourished my son’s skin and turn it into simple, minimal, no-fuss skincare and makeup for busy moms. Our vision is simple: skincare and makeup that are nourishing, affordable, and accessible to anyone, packaged sustainably, and made with natural ingredients. And yes, our star ingredient is tallow—beef fat that truly brings the glow.
Turning this into a real business has been a journey, much like tending a garden. There have been victories, like seeing repeat customers, hearing their encouragement, and watching our little community grow. There have been challenges, too—time is always tight with four boys, and I started officially in the summer of 2024, just a few months before welcoming my youngest. But with every batch, every satisfied customer, and every shared recommendation, I feel like we’re harvesting something meaningful.
I want every person who uses Nurture Glow to feel nourished, cared for, and beautiful. I hope they feel the love, attention, and intention in each jar—like receiving a little bit of the warmth of our home and family. Looking ahead, I’m excited to grow Nurture Glow into a thriving family business, involving my kids and husband, supporting our family, and continuing to help women and families soothe their skin and enjoy a healthy, radiant glow.
Because at the end of the day, Nurture Glow isn’t just about skincare—it’s about sharing care, intention, and a little bit of homestead joy in every jar.
